People that follow me here know that I normally try to avoid these types of posts, but as the CEO of the Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans’ Association Ltd, it’s time to call this behaviour out.
It appears the ABC has once again chosen sensationalism over solemnity.
In a recent Four Corners episode, SACRIFICE, the ABC appears to have deliberately edited footage to suggest construction works continued during the sacred Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.
Let’s be clear: these assertions are false, disrespectful, and, I believe, may be designed to mislead the public.
Instead of showing integrity and owning up to this editing mistake, the ABC doubled down and cleared itself, claiming “no reasonable viewer” would interpret the sequence as continuous.
Haven’t we seen enough of this from the ABC—refusing to accept responsibility for their own editing choices when it comes to those who serve?
Quite frankly, veterans and their families are tired of copping this from our national broadcaster and of the moral injury it causes.
The ABC receives over $1 billion annually from taxpayers. With that comes a responsibility to report with integrity—not engage in narrative engineering.
We stand with the Australian War Memorial and its Director, Matt Anderson.
Do better, ABC.
